Auto-cutter assemblies, cutter blade kits, replacement gears and the consumable spring/return mechanisms for thermal POS printers — Epson TM-T88 V/VI/VII, Star TSP100/650/800, Bixolon SRP-350 series, Citizen CT-S series and most others. How long should a POS printer cutter last?
Manufacturer specs are typically 1.5-2 million cuts. At 50 receipts/day, that's 80-100 years; at 1,000/day in a high-volume retail lane, that's 4-5 years. Disciplined cleaning (compressed air to remove paper dust) extends the life significantly.
My printer cuts paper but jams every few receipts — replace the cutter?
Try cleaning first. Adhesive residue from labels, paper dust, and accumulated debris cause the majority of intermittent jams. Compressed air and a soft brush, with the printer powered off and unplugged, fix maybe 70% of these. If after cleaning you still see jams, the cutter blade or the return spring is the next suspect.
Can I swap a cutter from one Epson model to another?
Within a series, often yes — TM-T88V and TM-T88VI use compatible cutters, for instance. Across series (TM-T88 vs TM-U220) absolutely not; the mechanisms are fundamentally different. Always cross-reference the OEM part number, which we list on every cutter product page.
Is replacing the cutter assembly difficult?
For most thermal printers it's a 5-10 minute job: power down, open the print cover, remove 2-4 screws, unplug the cutter's flex cable, lift out the old, drop in the new. No firmware update needed in 99% of cases. Step-by-step guidance ships in our service guides section.
